Mission Teens: Our Parent Organization
Northwest Bible Training Center is a division of Mission Teens, Inc. Established by Rev. James Bracken, Mission Teens has grown to include more than 15 centers throughout the United States.
Rev. James Bracken started the first Bible Training Center in 1969. He began by holding weekly prayer meetings in his home. Hundreds of participants attended these prayer groups and many of them were young people who were abusing drugs and alcohol. The local police department began sending officers to the prayer meetings - not to join in, but to limit the number of guests that could enter the home. At these meetings, Rev. Jim realized that there was need for more effective ministry of some type in order to reach the addicted young people that were coming out to his home to hear about Jesus Christ.
In 1969, after much prayer, fasting and hard work, the doors opened for the first Mission Teens Center in Glendora, New Jersey.
After two years passed, Rev. Jim realized the Center had housed many residents but few had made any lasting change in their lives. Again, Rev. Jim prayed and one evening during intense prayer, ideas and concepts for a new curriculum and format came to him. The ideas and thoughts came so quickly that he could not write fast enough to document them on paper. He knows that the Holy Spirit was dictating those thoughts to him. When he implemented the new curriculum it brought immediate and lasting results into the resident’s lives.
While Mission Teens has gone on to see many changes and improvements over the past 40 years, that curriculum and format is still currently in use at all 15 Mission Teens Centers.
Rev. Jim’s wife, Boydie, has helped him every step of the way. Along with Patty Rowley, manager of the corporate office and finances, they have seen many changes over the last 40 years.
